Jain Style Masoor Dal Tadka

INGREDIENTS
Washed whole red lentil - 150 grams
Water - 500 milliliters
Salt - 1 teaspoon
Water - 650 milliliters
Oil - 2 tablespoons
Cumin - 1 teaspoon
Asafoetida - 1/4 teaspoon
Green Chili - 1 teaspoon
Tomato - 80 grams
Tomato puree - 120 grams
Turmeric - 1/4 teaspoon
Red Chili - 1 teaspoon
Coriander powder - 1 teaspoon
Cumin powder - 1/2 teaspoon
Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
Water - 150 milliliters
Sugar - 1/2 teaspoon
Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
Coriander - 1 tablespoon
Coriander - for garnish
PREPARATION
- In a mixing bowl, add 150 grams washed whole red lentil and 500 milliliters water.
- Keep aside and soak for 15 - 20 minutes.
- In a pressure cooker, add soaked lentil, 1 teaspoon salt, and 650 milliliters water.
- Give it a mix and cover it with the lid.
- Pressure cook it until 3 whistles.
- Release the pressure and remove the lid.
- Give it a stir and remove it from heat.
- Now, heat 2 tablespoons oil in a pan, add 1 teaspoon cumin, 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida. Stir well.
- Then, add 1 teaspoon green chili, 80 grams tomatoes . Mix well.
- Cook for 1-2 minutes on low heat.
- Add 120 grams tomato puree, 1/4 teaspoon turmeric and mix well.
- Add 1 teaspoon red chili, 1 teaspoon coriander powder, 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt and mix it well.
- Now, add 150 milliliters water, stir once and bring it to boil.
- Then, add cooked lentil and mix well.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon sugar, 1 tablespoon lemon juice 1/2 teaspoon garam masala. Mix well.
- Add 1 tablespoon coriander and give it a nice stir.
- Remove the pan from heat.
- Garnish it with chopped coriander.
- Serve hot with rice or chapati.
